THE APPLE ADVENTURE – FALL 2019

THE APPLE ADVENTURE – FALL 2019
By Bernard Bujold –
It’s the perfect time of year to pick apples!
So I took advantage of a friend’s invitation last weekend (October 6, 2019) to go very close to the American border (Franklin QC) and pick some apples…
Let’s say that the harvest was not gigantic but enough for an afternoon of pleasure.
In addition, I took the opportunity, with my faithful ULYSSE, to pick up a small bag of apples for my friend Donald!

ELECTIONS CANADA 2019 – WHO WILL BE THE WINNER?

October 4, 2019

ELECTIONS CANADA 2019
By Bernard Bujold –
The 2019 federal election is really difficult to predict….
-Emotionally, Justin Trudeau is advantaged because he is charismatic, young and handsome even if, according to many, he is the least competent of the candidates running for Prime Minister.
-Mathematically, Andrew Scheer has some chance of being the next PM and some surveys calculate him as the winner even if no one likes him, despite the fact that he is probably more competent than Justin. Scheer’s big flaw is that he doesn’t look nice!
-Logically, the ideal would be a minority government with a little bit of each of the political parties, a bit of Green, a bit of Maxime, some NDP, and a lot of Bloc, in Quebec.
Really complicated…. It will be necessary to see if the two debates on October 7 (English) and October 10 (French) will shuffle the cards and change the game.
-Personally, I would like to vote Maxime but I don’t see any poster of his candidate in my riding…

DONALD TRUMP – THE KING OF THE JUNGLE IN 2020

October 1, 2019

DONALD TRUMP  – THE KING OF THE JUNGLE IN 2020
By Bernard Bujold –
Donald Trump is in full attack mode for the 2020 Presidential Election and he is acting like a Lion in the Jungle.
The Democrats have little option and one has to remember the 2016 campaign. Donald had to fight over 16 of the best political minds during the Republican run for their leadership and he won over all of them. Then come Hillary Clinton with all her political background and her team including the « Deep State » .
Donald Trump is like the Lion in the Jungle and he is a very aggressive and very strong fighter!

OCTOBER AT THE MUSEUM – 2019

OCTOBER AT THE MUSEUM – 2019
by Bernard Bujold –
I could not let the arrival of October 2019 on the calendar pass without greeting my spiritual friend “OCTOBER” in residence at the Musée des Beaux Arts de Montréal. I have adopted James Tissot’s work and on each visit I go to say hello to her, a little like an old lover….
My visit was appropriate because I learned, with great sadness, that the work OCTOBER will be on loan from September 30 to the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco for a special exhibition surrounding James Tissot.
Life is no longer the same without OCTOBER!
Even the canvas that replaces it is in pain of love!
I have of course some other works that I consider to be favorites and that I contemplate at each visit including “CLAIR DE LUNE” by Henri-Joseph Harpignie and “PAYSAGE (AVEC MARINE)” by Georges Michel but none replace OCTOBER in my heart!
I also took the opportunity of my visit, this Sunday, September 29, to have a coffee and see the misdeed that one or more breakers did on the exterior wooden sculpture while the left arm was stolen. (Charles Joseph – Residential School Totem Pole). A sad and above all bizarre action! Fortunately, we will learn a few days later that the arm will be returned back over.
Have a good fall 2019 and have a good trip my dear OCTOBER!

THE MONTREAL CLIMATE MARCH – 2019

September 28, 2019

THE MONTREAL CLIMATE WALK – 2019
By Bernard Bujold –
It was like the heyday of the 2012 Student Red Squares, but more festive and less aggressive.
The organizers put forward the figure of half a million people spread everywhere around the official route of the walk. The star of the hour, Greta Thunberg, gave two speeches, one at the beginning and one at the end of the march.
Will this walk have a real effect on the climate and the future of the planet or will the day just be a beautiful memory for the thousands of walkers?
To be continued…

POLITICS IN 2019

September 24, 2019

POLITICS IN 2019
By Bernard Bujold –
A political leader should be like the captain of a ship! Standing on the deck and making sure to bring the freighter and the crew to their destination.
Politics in 2019, all over the world, is rather a kind of boat at war! The problem is that too many crew members want to be the captain and this results in a situation of continual mutiny. The left wants to go in one direction and the right to the opposite and no one wants to yield in its objectives (in modern term it is called polarization). Result: the ship stays in the harbor, or worse bottom down!
I have compassion for those who are the designated captains (politicians) and I do not envy them! Their challenge is an impossible one!
To be a politician in 2019, one must be naive and believe that one can change the world. But this vision is a mirage!
As Shakespeare said: “There is a wave on the ocean of life, which if taken at the right time to the shore will lead the ship to new lands full of hope and promise; but if it is missed then it will be failure and misery … ”
Conclusion, we must hope that the wave will be good …
